537613_437838959573675_973453840_nAn educator for 8 years, I’ve been in teaching and learning all my life. Born in Owatonna, MN to a family of teachers, dinner table conversations growing up ranged from farming to politics to pedagogy, but always with an emphasis on equity and service to others.

In 2003 I joined the St. Paul Public Schools working in K-6 Special Education specializing in non-violent conflict resolution. Working with a diverse population I experienced a profound understanding of the day to day needs of Minnesota’s most underserved children.

While attending Minneapolis Community & Technical College in 2005 I continued my passion for teaching by forming group sessions leading adult english language learners. Leading groups of 15-20, I experienced firsthand the potential of collaborative learning.

Eager to put this experience to work I began working at Obama Elementary School, one St. Paul’s most socioeconomically diverse schools. Since
